Yi Peng Festival &
Loy Krathong Festival

Presented by Siam Luxe

Every full moon night of the 12th lunar month, Thai people will loy or float kratongs to ask for forgiveness from the goddess of the water.

As 94% of Thai Population are Buddhists, the festival often takes place at local Buddhist temples near the river banks

After the sunset, Thai people will carry handmade Krathongs to the rivers. Then they will light candles and incenses on Krathongs’ top, make a wish, and gently float the Krathongs away.

Due to the distinct culture of Northern Thailand, different kinds of events are celebrated simultaneously with the Loy Krathong Festival.

In Chiang Mai, we use Comb Loy or the floating lantern as a dedication to Lord Buddha, and to bring good luck, prosperity and happiness to ourselves and the loved ones.
