Experiential Isan

Overview

Our favorite Thailand's tour route to the underrated Isan, the northeastern region of Thailand. This is a community-based tour package that includes private transfers, our best tour guide, and 4 final days at a beach resort.

Travel Itinerary

Sawasdee

Our tour guide will transfer you from Suvarnabhumi Airport to your hotel in Bangkok.

Historic Bangkok

Travel with our tour guide to the historic part of Bangkok. In the morning, we travel to Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn), take the ferry across the Chao Phraya River to Wat Pho (Temple of Reclining Buddha), catch a glimpse of the Emerald Buddha image at Wat Phra Kaew, and finally, tour the magnificent royal palace: the Grand Palace. In the afternoon, we take the ferry to a lesser-known part in Thonburi, visiting Wat Rakhang (Temple of Sacred Bells). We immerse ourselves in Thai culture to understand about the practice of giving and merit making in Buddhism. Enjoy feeding fish and then blend in like a local as we explore the Wang Lang market (our favorite street food!).

Welcome to Isan

Spend the morning in Bangkok before we transfer you to the airport for your flight to Udon Thani.

When your flight arrives in Udon Thani, our staff will transfer you to the hotel in Udon Thani. The afternoon period is free at leisure.

Red Lotus Sea

The Red Lotus Sea, one of the strangest freshwater lakes in the world, is best visited at dawn (November to February), when the air temperature is low, when the sun is still rising from the lake.

The lake is also home to a variety of birds and fish, as well as some Buddhist monks who live in a temple on the island in the middle of the lake.

Apart from the lake, we travel to Ban Chiang Archaeological Site, one of the only four UNESCO World Heritage sites in Thailand. Research and excavations revealed that this Ban Chiang civilization may have been dated back to more than 3,500 years.

Enjoy a visit to Na Kha Silk Village and Handicraft Center, in the north of Udon Thani, before we transfer you back to the hotel.

Phu Phrat Bat Historical Park

Our tour guide picks you up in the morning after breakfast and checkout.

Head to a local and little-known orchid farm, Udon Sunshine, that grows beautiful scented orchids and dancing tea plants, which will move (or dance) to respond to the sound of music.

Travel to Phu Phra Bat Historical Park, which has a lot of distinguishing features, such as strange rock formations, prehistoric arts, and a number of millennia-old religious shrines, parts of an ancient Buddhist temples.

Pay respect to the Buddha’s relics and rock formations which believed to be a footprint of Lord Buddha and his disciples at Wat Phra Phutthabat Bua Bok.

Enjoy a tour around a remote temple, Wat Pa Phu Kon, which was built to be a peaceful sanctuary for monks and laypeople, as well as to preserve water source, wildlife, and plants in the forest of Na Yung-Nam Som National Park.

In the evening, we arrive in Chiang Khan, and enjoy shopping at the famous Chai Kong walking street.

Slow Travel in Chiang Khan

Time slows down in this little town, Chiang Khan. While the wooden town itself is already looked very fascinating, Chiang Khan’s cultural heritage and beliefs of the locals, which the townsfolk put a great respect to elders as well as the preservation of Buddhist practice, are the real highlights. And today, we will participate and do the following activities:

Participate in the sticky rice almsgiving ceremony, a special type of the almsgiving practice that has never been stopped even a single day for at least 2,500 years.

Visit Phra Phutthabat Phu Khwai Ngoen, where, according to the folklore, the Buddha gave a sermon to a beautiful ogress who loved to lure and eat ordinary human beings.

Tour a local mango farm, learning about mango planting and farming, with a chance to try and taste the Green Mango Salad, which features delicious mangoes harvested from this farm.

Set out on a boat trip through the historic transboundary Mekong river, enjoying the beautiful scenery of Thailand and Laos.

Beautiful Nature

Loei Province not only provides visitors with an opportunity to learn about its unique culture and lifestyle, but also a chance to catch a glimpse of its beautiful natural resources.

Our trip to Tai Dam Cultural Village and Museum, Phu Thok (Lonely Mountain), Suan Hin Pha Ngam (Beautiful Stone Cliff Garden), and Phu Pa Poh (Thailand’s Mini Fuji) will all be a good example for the former statement.

Also, a ride on Rot E-Taen, which is a local vehicle generally used in farms, at Suan Hin Pha Ngam and Phu Pa Poh can be very amusing, too.

Local Beliefs

Today, we set out to Dan Sai, a small district in Loei Province. It’s well known about the ghost festival, or Phi Ta Khon festival, which occurs once a year and usually takes place in the month of June.

The town is usually quiet during the non-festival time, but we can easily learn about the festival and the mask making by just a tour to Wat Phon Chai (The Temple of Phi Ta Khon) and its Phi Ta Khon museum.

Other than that, we also visit Phu Ruea National Park, Wat Neramit Vipassana (the Red Laterite Temple), and Phra That Si Song Rak (The Stupa of Love from Two Nations).

Fly to Krabi

Our tour guide picks you up after breakfast and checkout. We head to Loei’s City Pillar and Chaopho Kut Pong Shrine, where the spiritual deity who protect the town and people dwells. Ones may ask the spirit for permission to safely leave the province.

Then we will transfer you to Loei Airport for your domestic flight to Krabi Airport. There will be a flight connection at Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok.

Upon arrival in Krabi, we transfer you to Railay Bay by car and long-tail boat.
